Wow, he looks weird in that uniform....

So, a guy plays for one team for a long time, and his time with that team comes to and end. Time to retire? Sometimes. But other times, the player will move on to another team to finish his career, most likely because he just can't let go. Or a guy goes somewhere in the middle of his career for a bad, bad year or two.  So, in these cases, Michael Jordan fans are faced with the last image of their favorite player in this uniform below, instead of the red and black Bulls colors:

It's OK, its just.......strange. Weird. There have been many similar situations throughout pro sports over the years...here's a few of my favorites (there are so many):

Joe Namath with the L.A. Rams
Namath was waived by the Jets, where everyone pictures him playing forever, in 1977. He played for the Rams for one bad, bad season. He looks much better in green in white then blue and yellow. In four games, he threw for 606 yards, 3 TDs and 5 INTs. Broadway Joe should never have become LA Joe.

Patrick Ewing with the Sonics
Patrick "Chewing" played 15 seasons with the Knicks. Pretty much 15 great seasons. He never won a ring, but he was the heart and soul of that franchise and it has never been the same since he was shipped to Seattle in 2000. Ewing started 79 games for the Sonics that season, averaging 9.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. He made a stop in Orlando the next year and retired. I'm sorry, but Seattle should stick to coffee, Nirvana and rainy days and leave Patrick Ewing to New York (BTW, I am a proud owner of a Ewing 33 Knicks replica jersey. Love it).

Hakeem Olajuwon with the Raptors
"The Dream" was a fixture in Houston  for 17 seasons, racking up an MVP award, two Defensive Player of the Year awards, an NBA finals MVP and two championships. A great Hall-of-Fame career. He should have just ended it after the 1998-99 season. But, he couldn't let go and the Rockets traded him to the Toronto Raptors...yes..the Toronto Raptors...in 2001 for Bostjan Nachbar and Tito Maddox. What??? Talk about the sign of the end of the world. Hakeem averaged 7 points per game in 61 games and then rode off into the sunset. He looks about as natural in purple as the Cleveland Indians do in first place....burn...

O.J. Simpson with the 49ers
For two years, the Juice was loose in San Francisco after being traded from Buffalo in 1978.  O.J. had two nondescript years in red and gold, totaling 593 and 460 yards, respectively. Maybe the anger and shock of being shipped from Buffalo caused him to "allegedly" kill those people...oh wait, he was innocent. BTW, if you ever want to read a disturbing, sickening book, check this out:

Babe Ruth with the Boston Braves
I'm sorry, any time these two legends are standing next to each other, they NEED to both be in Yankee pinstripes. End of story. Moving on.

Jeff Garcia with the Browns
Garcia, aka Dr. Evil aka Powder, had Pro Bowl seasons with the 49ers in 2000, 2001 and 2002. After a bad year in 2003, highlighted with a war of words with Terrell Owens, he was cut and was signed by the Browns thanks to Butch Davis and Carmen Policy..what a great duo that turned out to be. Well, people soon realized this was a match made in hell from the get-go despite all the hype he received in Cleveland. Garcia never looked comfortable in brown and orange, was in an offensive system that was the complete opposite of the West Coast offense he ran in San Francisco, and once had a 0.0 QB rating in a game that season. The end result after that disastrous season: a 76.7 QB rating, 10 TDS, 9 INTs and 1,731 yards. He bolted out of town following the season and went to return to glory in...Detroit. Not really. He sucked there as well, but went on to play in Philadelphia (twice), Tampa Bay and Oakland.

David Ortiz with the Twins
Does anyone even remember this?? I don't.

Karl Malone and Gary Payton with the Lakers
One of the great blunders in recent NBA history, The 2003-04 Lakers. I could write a whole seperate blog post on that disaster of a team..maybe I will one day?? Anyway, the Lakers decided to bring in Karl Malone and Gary Payton to team with Shaq and Kobe in the 2003-04 season. The team went 56-26, made it to the Finals and was humiliated by the Pistons (who were in the prime with their "dynasty" at the point) in five games. It was a dysfunctional team the looked old and slow. Malone IS the Utah Jazz and Payton is not flattering in yellow. If only we could erase this moment from history all together.

Shaquille O'Neal with the Cavaliers
Just kidding folks.

Others on my list who I didn't feel like writing up:
Brett Favre with the Vikings
Wayne Gretzky with the St. Louis Blues
Robert Parrish with the Bulls
Jerry Rice with the Seahawks
Franco Harris with the Seahawks
Scottie Pippen with the TrailBlazers AND the Rockets
Dan Majerle with the Cavs
Shaun Kemp with the Magic
Willie Mays with the Mets
Yogi Berra with the Mets
Deion Sanders with the Redskins
Wade Boggs with the Devil Rays
Randy Johnson with the Yankees

  4. Rob: My first game at hte Silverdome (also a mistake) was between Detroit and SF which was the Monday Night Football that happened to be on Sunday night. Yes, the Juice was playing and they (SF) lost both QB's during the game. Leroy Solemon (WR I believe) had to come in a finish the game at QB.
